At McAuley College our philosophy is centred around the development of the whole person, encompassing social, emotional and physical development. Through the sporting life of the College, students are provided with opportunities to excel in these areas, provided with access to a range of competitions and activities that are designed to activate physical and emotional development through socialisation, service and play.
The entire student community is catered for within the sports program, with school-based sessions delivered on a weekly basis. The College’s sport program encapsulates #theREALmcauley motto, as students demonstrate their capacity to Keep it REAL and represent the spirit that is McAuley College.
Sport at McAuley College includes a wide variety of intra-school, inter-school and representation opportunities including College carnivals and gala days. Our range of sports opportunities allow students to foster individual talents while making a commitment to their health and wellbeing.
McAuley College is a member of the South East Colleges Association (SECA), competing in a number of interschool competitions throughout the calendar year including Cross Country, Swimming and Athletics Carnivals as well as numerous gala days. The SECA Winter Sport Program also provides all students with the opportunity to engage in an interschool competition within a variety of sports throughout Term two and Three.
As a member of Pacific District Sport, McAuley College students are invited to further develop their individual talents through local trails that may entitle selection within Zone, District, Regional, State or National teams.
As the College community continues to grow, so too does the capacity to nominate in more state-wide and local competitions including Vicki Wilson Netball, Titans Rugby League Gala Days as Queensland Schools eSports . Moving forward, the vision also incorporates Calvary Cup Futsal and Queensland All Schools Touch Football for students in the junior school.
Students are also invited to participate in extra curricula activities such as weekly fitness club and swimming club (Term 1 and 4). As the College continues to become more actively involved in the wider community, many students enjoy the chance to engage in local fun runs including The Chappy Challenge, Gold Coast Marathon and Bridge to Brisbane.
The next major development within the Sports program is the integration of rowing. In conjunction with Rowing Queensland, students have already interacted with the sport through trials and attendance at local regattas, with movement toward more permanent training and development in the near future.
The McAuley College Sports program is designed to develop student confidence and resilience while instilling a sense of community and school pride. The value of participation remains at the forefront, with all students encouraged and challenged to be their best.
